In a move that is likely to be a game changer for electric vehicles, Tesla Motors has revealed that it has developed an electric car with an astonishing price tag of $2.2 million, far beyond its budget.
The $2 million price tag is the highest ever paid for an electric vehicle and the price will also help Tesla build its electric vehicle factory, which is expected to open later this year.
The car is based on a Tesla Roadster and is meant to be used for testing purposes in the US, UK and Europe.
The car’s batteries can be charged in about a minute, while its range is around 400 miles, making it the fastest electric vehicle currently on the road.
The Roadster is a unique design because it has two front and two rear doors.
The doors open to reveal the back of the car and the engine compartment.
Tesla says the interior can be used as a bed, kitchen, storage or office space.
It is also capable of going for hours without charging.
The company said that it will make it available to customers by the end of the year.
“The Roadsters have become an iconic symbol of American ingenuity and entrepreneurship,” said Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
“Our Roadsters will be the vehicle of choice for Tesla’s workforce, and the millions of electric-car owners around the world who want to take advantage of the vehicle’s low emissions and electric drivetrain to create more jobs.”
Tesla Motors will sell a range of electric cars based on the Roadster, including the Model S sedan, which it plans to sell in the second half of this year, as well as the Roadsters, Roadster 2 and Roadster X.
The vehicle will be available for sale in the first half of next year, Tesla said.
