For a company that has made headlines with some of the most notorious air pollution cases in U.S. history, Ford is changing its name for the 2015 Explorer SUV.
The company announced on Wednesday that the SUV will be called the Ford Explorer for “clean diesel emissions.”
Ford CEO Mark Fields says he has seen firsthand the benefits of being clean and said the name will make it easier for customers to find the vehicle.
The Explorer, which is built in Mexico and features a 4.6-liter V6 engine, was the only vehicle in the U.K. to be designated as “clean” by the World Health Organization in 2015.
The SUV has been the subject of several lawsuits in the past, including one brought by the U!
News team, and its emissions were found to be in violation of European Union air quality standards.
The company settled with the group in 2018.
